MEGALO CHORIO

 

Megalo Chorio is located 17 km south of Karpenisi. It is located on the slopes of Mount Kaliakouda and is built amphitheatrically.

Oak trees, walnut trees and running water complete the magical picture.

The image you will see is a picturesque village with alleys and stone mansions.

Looking for the clock, you will find countless shops with folk art creations even made from recyclable materials.

If you want to get to know the way of life of the local residents, then you should not miss the Folklore Museum, rich in exhibits.

In the central square of the village you can enjoy your coffee while the sun is setting, overlooking the green valley that spills out in front of you.

At the entrance of the village, following the uphill, you will find yourself in the mountain shelter but also in Lakkomata, at 1500m altitude where you will find the monument for the historical battle of Kaliakouda that took place on August 28, 1823. From there you will enjoy Helidona and the Old Small Village.

Karpenissi, is one of the most popular mountain destinations, located at the foot of the southwest side of Velouhi, at an altitude of 960 meters. It is only 295 km away. from Athens, 370 km. from Thessaloniki and 75 km from the city of Lamia. Karpenisi is a beautiful city flooded with landscapes of infinite natural beauty and with a multitude of cultural events during the summer months.

It is worth visiting the surrounding picturesque villages with well-preserved traditional buildings (Agios Nikolaos, Agios Andreas, Koryschades, Myriki, etc.), the artificial lake of Kremasto, the folklore museums of the area and trying local flavors and delicacies.
