Parents often ask, “Wait, are you just playing in the therapy room?”. The answer is: “Yes, and that is exactly why we see results!”
For adults, therapy usually means talking. For children, however, play is their natural language. We can’t tell a 4-year-old, “Let’s analyze why you’re feeling angry,” but we can teach them how to stay calm through a role-playing game with dinosaurs.
How does it work therapeutically?
- Reduces Resistance: The child doesn’t feel like they are being “examined” or “corrected.” They feel safe and happy, which makes them eager to cooperate. Learning Without Pressure: Through play, children practice speech, fine motor skills, and social behavior experientially. They learn by doing, not just by listening. Processing Emotions: Play allows children to express fears and worries that they cannot yet put into words.
