How to apply eyeliner correctly?

There is no season that doesn’t include eyeliner among its trends, in one way or another, and that alone proves that this makeup product was, is and will be a staple in our wardrobe.

But as much as we love it, as much as we can’t get our eyes off a flawless cat-eye, another thing is that when it comes time to use it, eyeliner goes from magic to nightmare – at least for most of us, and certainly in our first attempts with it.

But because we never give up on any battle, and because the perfect eyeliner line elevates the look and is worth it beyond a shadow of a doubt, we asked the experts and gathered 5 key tips that lead to surefire success for both beginners and intermediates who want to improve their technique.

Choose the right eyeliner.

All eyeliners may look the same to you, but they’re not. Each one has its own design, tip (very important for creating the perfect line), and even pigment intensity and there are eyeliners designed to make application easier for beginners.

The design makes eyeliner application much easier than you might imagine, offering proper hold and control. From cat-eyes to any statement line you can imagine, Clean Line Liquid Liner will become your go-to liner.

Get off to the right start.

Regardless of your eye shape or the style of line you want to form, try starting at the… end: put a dot where you want the eyeliner line to end, at the outer corner of the eye. To make sure the effect is the same on both eyes, keep your eyes open while you decide on the line finish – you may struggle to get it exactly right on the first try, but with practice you’ll get there with your eyes closed (which is the reason why).

Support your hand.

Until you have the air of an expert, any kind of (sub)support is welcome! Once you have delineated the end of the line, as we said immediately above, you will start drawing it. Important: make sure you have a firm surface in front of you on which to rest your elbow – this will greatly assist you in keeping your hand steady and creating an even line.

Connect the dots.

One way that leads to sure success is to put three dots along the upper eyelid, and then join them together with eyeliner. The result is easier if you use a soft pencil and bluing the line with a sharp eyeliner brush. Otherwise, if you use liquid eyeliner, keep q-tips and a demi-makeup emulsion or micellar water nearby for any corrections.

Get the help of the tape recorder.

An unmistakable way to get the line right is the tape trick: put a piece of tape with the outside corner facing the outside corner of the bag.
of the eye to the outer corner of your eyebrow. This will act as a “guide” to easily form a straight and even line
on both eyes.

Go against the current!

If the direction from the inner to the outer corner of the eye doesn’t work for you, try it the other way round: after you have defined the point where the eyeliner line ends (as mentioned above), start from this point in the outer corner and form the line facing inwards.
