Neos Marmaras is a cosmopolitan village in Sithonia. Built amphitheatrically on the foothills of Mount Itamos, it uniquely combines the mountain with the sea. Neos Marmaras offers magnificent views of the Toroneos Gulf and is an ideal destination for peaceful and high quality holidays.
The village has two large beaches, the central beach and Paradisos Beach. Both beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag for their crystal clear waters and golden sand. At the same time, the area features lush vegetation with pine forests that extend almost to the sea, creating an idyllic natural landscape.
In the center of the village there are two squares where someone can find shops selling souvenirs, clothing, jewelry, and other products. In Neos Marmaras, there are traditional restaurants serving fresh fish, luxury restaurants, and grill houses offering authentic Greek flavors.
History
Neos Marmaras was founded in 1924 by refugees who arrived after the expulsion of the Greeks of Asia Minor, from the island of Propondida located in the Sea of Marmara. The first residents settled in Parthenonas, which is located 5 km from the present-day Neos Marmaras. In 1970, most of the residents moved to the coastal areas of the village. Parthenonas, today, is considered a traditional settlement with stone-built houses, traditional guesthouses, and taverns offering breathtaking view.
